Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero featured several scenes of Beerus fawning over a woman named Cheelai, but the manga has now cut those scenes.

Beerus has the hots for Cheelai in Dragon Ball Super Super Hero

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super chapter 92The Dragon Ball Super manga recently retconned Beerus' love interest from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film in a move that contradicts Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou's promise of a romantic comedy arc. Fans' only hope lies in how this latest chapter's adaptation is already mixing up scenes from the original movie.

During an intense sparring session between Goku and Broly on Beerus' planet, the resulting explosions knock Whis' staff out of hearing range the moment that Bulma tries to call it to get Goku and Vegeta back to Earth in Dragon Ball Super chapter 92 by mangaka Akira Toriyama, artist Toyotarou, translator Caleb Cook and letterer Brandon Bovia. Though much of the scene from the movie is preserved, Beerus' love interest Cheelai is conspicuously absent.

Dragon Ball Super's Manga Erases Cheelai For a Key Scene

Cheelai gets ice cream with Beerus in Dragon Ball Super Super Hero

In the original movie, Whis didn't hear Bulma's calls because an empty ice cream container had fallen on top of his staff. And the reason why there was ice cream in the general vicinity was because, midway through the match that causes the container to cover up Bulma's call, Beerus volunteers to get some with his love interest Cheelai. More importantly, Beerus had already hit on Cheelai moments before the sparring match had even begun. Since the manga jumps in during a sparring match after Beerus would have already hit on Cheelai and retcons why the two got together in the movie, it can be assumed that the whole relationship has been completely eliminated from the manga adaptation.

Of course, there's some hope that Beerus and Cheelai could still get involved, namely through the various scenes that the manga has already mixed up. For example, Goku is sparring against Broly, not Vegeta. But there's still a training session, and the results of it are still obstructing Bulma from reaching Whis. So it's possible that Beerus can still meet and fawn over Cheelai, just after this match. But as of now, things don't look good for fans looking for a bit of romance in the action series.

This is particularly upsetting for those who were excited by artist Toyotarou's announcement where he promised more romantic scenes in this current arc. The only source of romance has been between Trunks and Mai and that hasn't been enjoyable because she's so much older than him even though they look to be the same age. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball Super merely hinted at the only appropriate relationship before jumping to this new storyline with Goku and Broly. And now the scene that many readers wanted to see more of between Beerus and Cheelai isn't even there? It's all disappointing.

What Cheelai Could Mean For Beerus' Character

Beerus sees Cheelai in Dragon Ball Super Super Hero

A romcom arc with Beerus and Cheelai would greatly expand upon the God of Destruction's character. Ever since his introduction in Dragon Ball Super, Beerus has always been obsessed with food. Yes, it's humorous and the fact that it's essentially the only thing keeping him from destroying Earth (or so he says) makes him more formidable. But the gag is getting old. Seeing a powerful god-like Beerus changing his ways for love would definitely keep his character fresh while giving some fun interactions. Dragon Ball Super may have cut Beerus' love interest in this one instance, but it would be a mistake to do so again going forward.
