Make Me Believe set a romantic comedy story against some gorgeous landscapes. Here are the filming locations used for the new Netflix movie.
Turkish film Make Me Believe sets a romantic comedy story against some gorgeous landscapes. In traditional rom-com fashion, the 2023 Netflix original movie tells the story of Sahra (Ayça Aysin Turan) and Deniz (Ekin Koç), two childhood friends pushed together by meddling family members - in this case, their grandmothers. The two started a romance as teenagers, but their relationship ended on a sour note.
As adults, Sahra and Deniz butt heads while maintaining strong chemistry throughout the story. The dynamic gets more complicated when Sahra learns that Deniz is the reclusive photographer she needs to interview for work. Like all good romance movies, the setting of Make Me Believe offers a swell of positive emotions that match up with Sahra and Deniz's experience of falling in love. Here's where the filmmakers shot the new Netflix movie.
Çanakkale Province, Türkiye
Make Me Believe directors Evren Karabiyin Günaydin and Murat Saraçoglu chose to film Make Me Believe on site entirely in northwestern Turkey, which is also where the story itself appears to be set. Specifically, it was filmed in the Çanakkale Province. Rather than focusing on one specific part of the region, the movie utilized various areas to build its beautiful setting. The movie especially made use of the shorelines in the Çanakkale Province. Rockier parts of the shore were shown when tension was being built, whereas softer shores in Make Me Believe provided dreamier moments. Additionally, shots of Sahra and Deniz riding a motorbike next to the Aegean Sea went hand-in-hand with the romantic mood of the film.
Athena Tapinaği, Assos, Türkiye
Approximately three-fourths of the way through Make Me Believe, the setting shifted to the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Assos, located in the Çanakkale Province. Assos is home to a famous Doric Temple of Athena called Athena Tapinaği (via Britannica). Sahra and Deniz did a photo shoot at the Athena Tapinaği for the cover of the magazine at which Sahra works. Assos was the perfect setting for this scene because the architecture in this region mirrors the events in the scene.
Assos was once beautiful and thriving, much like Sahra and Deniz's relationship when they first arrived at Athena Tapinaği. However, the relationship quickly fell apart when Deniz learned that Sahra was trying to get an interview with him. Deniz stormed off, walking by more crumbled remains of Assos. By making use of the ruins of the fallen Greek city in the Netflix movie, Make Me Believe was able to diversify its landscapes, adding to the beauty of its cinematography.
